آئی یہ لفظ مراٹھی میں’’ماں‘‘ کے معنی میں ہے ۔ میں اعظم گڑھ میں اپنے بچپن میں ’’آئی بائی بھلا دینا‘‘ یا ’’آئی بائی بھول جانا‘‘ تہدید کے معنی میں اکثر سنتا تھا۔ مثلاً کوئی زبردست لڑکا کسی کمزور یا زیر دست لڑکے سے کہتا، ’’زیادہ بولے تو دو تھپڑ لگائوں گا ساری آئی بائی بھول جائے گی۔‘‘ میں اس وقت ’’آئی بائی‘‘ کے معنی نہ سمجھ سکا تھا۔ بہت بعد میں جب مراٹھی بولنے والوں کی زبان سے میں نے’’آئی‘‘ بمعنی’’اماں‘‘ سنا تو خیال آیا کہ ’’آئی بائی‘‘ میں’’آئی ‘‘ کے معنی ’’ماں‘‘ ہیں، اور ’’بائی‘‘ کا لفظ تو احتراماً عورتوں کے لئے عام ہے، اگرچہ ہمارے اطراف کی اردو میں اس کے معنی کچھ اور ہیں۔ دیکھئے ،’’آیا‘‘۔
