مکھوٹا بمعنی ’’نقلی چہرہ‘‘۔ یہ لفظ ’’شیکسپیئر‘‘ میں نہیں ہے، نہ پلیٹس میں اور نہ ’’نور اللغات‘‘ میں، حتیٰ کہ ہندی کے وسیع و عریض لغت ’’شبد ساگر‘‘ میں بھی اس کا پتہ نہیں۔ مجھے یہ صرف اسٹوارٹ میک گریگر(Stuart McGregor) کی (Oxford Hindi-English Dictionary) میں ملا۔ یہ لفظ اب ہندی میں رائج ہورہا ہے، اور افسوس کہ بعض اردو والے بھی اسے اختیار کرنے پر مائل نظر آتے ہیں۔ جن معنی میں یہ لفظ ہندی میں بولاجانے لگا ہے، اسے ظاہر کرنے کے لئے اردو میں حسب ذیل لفظ موجود ہیں: نقاب، چہرہ، نقلی چہرہ، بیچا (یائے معروف، خاص کر ڈراؤنے چہرے کے معنی میں)۔ اتنے بہت سے عمدہ الفاظ کے ہوتے ہوئے اردو والے اگر’’مکھوٹا‘‘ بولیں تو اپنی زبان کے ساتھ زیادتی کریں گے۔
