تیل میں ہاتھ ڈالْنا
۔سخت قسم کھانا۔ زمانۂ جاہلیّت میں دستور تھا کہ جب کوئی شخص کسی بات سے مُنکر ہوتا اپنی صداقت کے ثبوت کے واسطے جلتے تیل میں ہاتھ ڈالتا اور کہتا کہ اگر میں سچّا ہوں گا تو سانچ کو آنچ نہیں آئے گی۔ بعض اوقات چور کو بھی اس طرح آزمایا کرتے تھے لیکن چونکہ آگ کا کام جلانا ہے اور بے لاگ اُس کی تاثیر سے بچ نہیں سکتا اس سبب سے اکثر چور ڈر کے مارے اِس قَسم کا نام لیتے ہی اقرار کرلیا کرتے تھے۔ ؎
