عمدہ، خوب، لطیف چیز، نادر، نایاب مجازاً: آم (روایت کے مطابق محمود غزنوی جب ہندوستان میں آیا اور آم کھایا تو اسے بہت بھایا مگر نام (آنب) سن کر ہنسا اور کہا ’’سخت ستم ہے کہ ایسا لطیف میوہ اور نام میں یہ فحش اسے نغزک کہنا چاہیے کہ اسم بامسمٰے ہو‘‘ چنانچہ بعض فارسی کی کتابوں میں نغزک بعض میں انبہ لکھتے ہیں، حضرت امیر خسروؒ نے قران السعدین میں ہندوستان کے میووں کی تعریف کرتے ہوئے آم کے باب میں بھی چند اشعار لکھے ہیں جس میں اس لفظ کا استعمال کیا ہے
