مصراع ’’مصرع‘‘ کے معنی میں عربی لفظ ’’مصراع‘‘ بھی مروج ہے۔ ’’منتخب اللغات‘‘، ’’بہارعجم‘‘، ’’غیاث اللغات‘‘، ’’آنند راج‘‘، سب میں درج ہے کہ ’’مصراع‘‘ اور ’’مصرع‘‘ ایک ہی ہیں۔ مقبول عربی لغات میں ’’مصراع‘‘ کا اندراج مجھے نہیں ملا، لیکن جب ’’منتخب‘‘ اور’’غیاث‘‘ جیسے محتاط لغات میں ’’مصراع‘‘ کو عربی بتایا گیا ہے تو یقین ہے کہ بڑے لغات میں یہ لفظ ہوگا۔ انیسویں صدی تک اردو والے ’’مصراع‘‘ بھی لکھتے تھے، غالب ؎ موزونی دو عالم قربان ساز یک درد مصراع نالۂ نے سکتہ ہزار جا ہے ’’مصراع‘‘ اب بھی استعمال کیا جائے تو کوئی قباحت نہیں۔
