आसिफ़-उद-दौला वाली अवध ने लखनऊ में अकाल के दिनों में शरीफ़ों एवं अन्य लोगों के लिए मेहनत-मज़दूरी का प्रबंध किया था कि शरीफ़ लोग रात के अँधियारे में पहचाने जाने के अपमान से बचे रहें, ये मसल मशहूर थी कि 'जिसे न दे मौला उसे दिलाएँ आसिफ़-उद-दौला'
विशेष • आसिफ़-उद-दौला लखनऊ के प्रसिद्ध नवाब हुए हैं, वह बहुत दानी थे, कहते हैं कि 'एक बार एक फ़क़ीर ने उन के पास आ कर एक हज़ार रूपये माँगे, इस पर नवाब ने उसे दस रूपये दे कर कहा कि तुम्हारे भाग्य में इतना ही बदा है, फ़क़ीर ने जब रूपये लेने से इन्कार किया तो नवाब ने कहा कि कल आना, दूसरे दिन फ़क़ीर के आने से पहले ही नवाब ने एक रूपये की और एक पैसे की थैली भरवा कर रख दी, फ़क़ीर आया और रूपये माँगने लगा, नवाब ने उन दो थैलियों में से उठा लेने को कहा, दुर्भाग्यवश फ़क़ीर ने पैसों वाली थैली उठा ली, तब नवाब ने कहा कि जो तुम्हारे भाग्य में था वो तुम्हें मिल गया' उक्त कहावत इसी घटना पर आधारित है।

آصف الدولہ والی اودھ نے لکھنئو میں ایام قحط میں شرفا و عوام کے لئے محنت مزدوری کا انتظام کیا تھا کہ اشراف رات کی تاریکی میں پہچانے جانے کی رسوائی سے محفوظ رہیں، یہ مثل مشہور تھی کہ 'جسے نہ دے مولا اسے دلائیں آصف الدولہ'
مثال • آصف الدولہ لکھنؤ کے مشہور نواب ہوئے ہیں، وہ بہت سخی اور فیاض تھے۔ کہتے ہیں کہ 'ایک بار ایک فقیر نے ان کے پاس آ کر ایک ہزار روپے مانگے، اس پر نواب نے اسے دس روپے دے کر کہا کہ تمہاری قسمت میں اتنا ہی ہے، فقیر نے جب روپے لینے سے انکار کیا تو نواب نے کہا کہ کل آنا، دوسرے دن فقیر کے آنے سے پہلے ہی نواب نے ایک روپے کی اور ایک پیسے کی تھیلی بھروا کر رکھ دی، فقیر آیا اور روپے مانگنے لگا، نواب نے ان دو تھیلیوں میں سے ایک اٹھا لینے کو کہا، بدقسمتی سے فقیر نے پیسوں والی تھیلی اٹھا لی، تب نواب نے کہا کہ جو تمہاری قسمت میں تھا وہ تمہیں مل گیا' مذکورہ کہاوت اسی واقعے پر مبنی ہے۔
