جد و جہد عربی میں یہ لفظ حرف اول کے فتحہ یا ضمہ(جَد/جُد) سے اور حرف چہارم کے فتحہ یا ضمہ(جَہد/جُہد)سے بولا جاتا ہے۔ اردو میں بھی اول مکسور(جِد) اور چہارم مکسور(جِہد) کبھی کبھی سنا گیا ہے، لیکن بولنے والوں کی اکثریت اب اول مفتوح (جَد) اورچہارم مکسور(جِہد) بولتی ہے۔ ( پلیٹس نے اسے عامیانہ تلفظ بتایا ہے )۔ رواج عام کے مد نظراردو کے لئے یہی تلفظ درست ہے۔ بعض لوگ اول مضموم بولتے ہیں جو اردو کے لئے سراسر غلط ہے۔ بعض لوگ چہارم کو مضموم بولتے ہیں۔ یہ عربی میں تو ہے لیکن نامانوس ہے۔ اردو میں تواس کا گذر ہی نہیں۔ اگر کوئی بولتا ہے تو وہ اردو کا گویا مذاق اڑاتا ہے۔ ملحوظ رہے کہ ’’جہد‘‘ میں ہائے ہوز ساکن ہے، عام بول چال میں بھی یوں ہی ہے۔ اسے ہائے ہوز متحرک کے ساتھ نہ بولنا چاہئے۔
