حرافہ اول مفتوح، دوم مشدد۔ فارسی والوں نے عربی’’حرف‘‘ سے ایک لفظ بنایا ’’حراف‘‘(مع رائے مشدد) اور اس کے معنی قائم کئے،’’ طلیق اللسان، شگفتہ گفتگوکرنے والا‘‘۔ یہ لفظ اردو میں آگیا، لیکن معنی بدل گئے۔ یہاں اس لفظ سے ’’چالاک، مکار، باتوں میں بہت تیز‘‘ وغیرہ مرادلیتے ہیں۔’’اردو لغت، تاریخی اصول پر‘‘ میں جو شواہد دئے ہیں ان سے اس لفظ اور معنی کا وجود زمانۂ دکن سے ثابت ہے۔ بیسویں صدی آتے آتے’’حراف‘‘ کا استعمال بہت کم ہوگیا اور اس کی جگہ ’’حرافہ‘‘ نے لے لی۔ ’’حرافہ‘‘ کا اندراج ’’آنند راج‘‘، ’’دہخدا‘‘، ’’غیاث‘‘، ’’منتخب‘‘ میں نہیں ہے اور نہ ہی جن فارسی لغات میں ’’حراف‘‘ درج ہے ان میں اس کے وہ معنی دئے ہوئے ہیں جو اردو میں ہیں۔ دوسری بات یہ کہ ’’حراف‘‘ تو عورت مرد دونوں کے لئے بولتے تھے لیکن ’’حرافہ‘‘ صرف جنس اناث کے لئے مخصوص ہے۔ لہٰذا اردو میں مستعمل معنی کی حد تک ’’حراف/حرافہ‘‘ خالص اردو ہیں۔
