برائے ’’برائے‘‘(اول مفتوح) اردوفارسی کا مستقل لفظ ہے، لیکن یہ تنہا کبھی نہیں آتا۔ فارسی میں اس کے معنی ہیں، ’’واسطے، لئے‘‘۔ اردو میں بھی یہی معنی ہیں، اوراردو میں بھی یہ تنہا کبھی نہیں آتا۔ یہ کہنا مشکل ہے کہ فارسی میں اس کا املا مع ہمزہ تھا یا بدون ہمزہ، کیونکہ پرانے لغات میں یہ لفظ درج نہیں۔ اوراگر ہوتا بھی تو املا کی تحقیق ہوجانا ضروری نہ تھا، کیونکہ ممکن ہے کاتب نےغلطی کردی ہو۔ بہرحال، ’’فرہنگ آنند راج‘‘ مطبوعہ ایران میں اس کا املا ’’برای‘‘یعنی بدون ہمزہ لکھا ہوا ہے۔ حیم کی فارسی انگریزی ڈکشنری میں بھی یہی املا ہے۔ اردو میں شیکسپیئر، ’’آصفیہ‘‘، ’’نور‘‘، اور ترقی اردو بورڈ کراچی کی ’’ارود لغت‘‘، ان سب میں مع ہمزہ (یعنی’’برائے‘‘) درج ہے۔ پلیٹس میں بدون ہمزہ (یعنی ’’برای‘‘) لکھا ہوا ہے۔ موجوددہ زمانے میں’’برائے‘‘ بدون ہمزہ لکھنے کا رجحان بڑھ رہا ہے، لیکن مع ہمزہ (’’برائے‘‘) بھی بالکل درست ہے۔ دیکھئے‘‘، ’’براہ کرم‘‘۔
