Interesting Information on vaav maa'duula
واؤ معدولہ اردو میں مستعمل بہت سے فارسی اور ترکی لفظوں میں حرف واؤ کو لکھتے، یعنی مکتوب کرتے ہیں، لیکن اسے پڑھتے نہیں، یعنی ملفوظ نہیں کرتے۔ مثلاً:خواب، خوار، خواہش، خورد، خوش، یورش۔ ان سب الفاظ میں واؤ نہیں پڑھی جاتی اور نہ تقطیع میں آتی ہے۔ ایسی واؤ کو’’معدولہ‘‘ کہتے ہیں، یعنی ایسی واؤ جسے دبا کر برابر کردیا گیا ہو۔ لیکن بعض لوگ مندرجہ بالا الفاظ اور ان کی طرح کے الفاظ میں، اگر واؤ کے بعد الف ہو، واؤ کا ہلکا سا تلفظ کرتے ہیں۔ یہ واؤ تقطیع میں اب بھی نہیں آتی، لیکن سننے والے/بولنے والے واؤ کی تھوڑی سی ’’مہک‘‘ [اشمام (اول مکسور)، بمعنی ’’سونگھنا‘‘] محسوس کرتے ہیں۔ اسی لئے ایسی واؤ کو ’’واؤ اشمام‘‘ کہا جاتا ہے۔ واؤ معدولہ اور واؤ اشمام میں کوئی اصولی فرق نہیں، عروضی اعتبار سے دونوں بے وجود ہیں، بس تلفظ کا ذرا سا فرق ہے جسے علاقائی سمجھنا چاہئے۔ جہاں تک سوال لکھنے کا ہے، واؤ معدولہ (یا واؤ اشمام) لکھنے میں ضرور آئے گی۔ یہ نہ خیال کرنا چاہئے کہ جب بولنے میں نہیں ہے تو لکھنے میں کیوں ہو؟ لکھنا اور شے ہے، بولنا اور شے۔
