قریشی ’’قبیلۂ قریش کا، اہل قریش‘‘ کے معنی میں یہ لفظ بہت پرانا ہے۔عربی والے اعتراض کرتے ہیں کہ عربی میں’’قریشی‘‘ نہیں ہے، صرف ’’قرشی‘‘ (اول مضموم، دوم مفتوح)ہے، بمعنی’’قبیلۂ قریش کا‘‘، اور تمام اہل قریش کے لئے عربی میں صرف ’’قریش‘‘ آتا ہے۔ یہ بات صحیح بھی ہے اور نہیں بھی۔ عربی والوں کا کہنا ہے کہ ’’قریشی‘‘ غلط ہے کیونکہ عربی میں نہیں ہے۔ اس کا جواب یہ ہے کہ اردو میں یہی درست ہے، عربی فارسی میں کچھ بھی ہو۔ دوسرا جواب یہ ہے کہ ’’غیاث‘‘ جیسے محتاط لغت میں لکھا ہے کہ ’’قرشی‘‘ اور’’قریشی‘‘ دونوں صحیح ہیں۔ ’’دہخدا‘‘ نے ’’قریش‘‘ اور’’قریشیہ‘‘ کا الگ الگ اندراج کیا ہے، بمعنی ’منسوب بہ قریش‘‘۔ ایسی صورت مزید کہنے کی ضرورت نہیں۔ عربی میں صرف ’’قرشی‘‘ ہوگا، لیکن فارسی اور اردو میں’’قریشی‘‘ بھی ہے اور ’’قریش‘‘ بھی۔
