- ایک خیالی پرندہ جس كی بابت مشہور ہے كہ بہت خوش رنگ اور خوش آواز ہے، كہتے ہیں كہ اس كی چونچ میں تین سو ساٹھ سوراخ ہوتے ہیں اور ہر سوراخ سے ایک راگ نكلتا ہے اس كی عمر ایک ہزار سال كی ہوتی ہے، جب عمر كی مدّت پوری ہوجاتی ہے تو یہ پرندہ سوكھی لكڑیاں جمع كركے ان پر بیٹھتا ہے اور مستی كے عالم میں گاتا اور پروں كو پھڑپھڑاتا ہے ۔ جب اس كی چونچ سے دیپک راگ نكلتا ہے تو لكڑیوں میں آگ لگ جاتی ہے اور ققنس اس میں جل كر راكھ ہوجاتا ہے۔ پھر خدا كی قدرت سے اس راكھ پر مین٘ھ برستا ہے اور اس میں سے خود بخود انڈا پیدا ہوجاتا ہے اور كچھ مدّت كے بعد اس انڈے میں سے پھر ققنس پیدا ہوتا ہے ۔
