باعث سوم مکسور۔ پہلے’’بہ باعث‘‘ بولتےتھے، کیونکہ ’’باعث‘‘ کے معنی ’’وجہ‘‘ قرار دئے جاتے تھے۔مثلاً: ’’آپ نہیں آئے کیا باعث تھا؟‘‘ یہ معنی اب بھی ہیں، لیکن اب ایک اور معنی’’وجہ سے‘‘ رائج ہیں، مثلاً: ’’تختے میں سوراخ ہوجانے کے باعث کشتی ڈوب گئی۔‘‘ یعنی سوراخ ہوجانے کی وجہ سے۔ پہلے زمانے میں یوں کہتے: ’’تختے میں سوراخ ہوجانے کے بہ باعث کشتی ڈوب گئی‘‘۔
