آنکڑا اردو میں لوہے کی لمبی چھڑ کو کہتے ہیں جس کا ایک سرا نوکدار اور مڑا ہوا ہوتا ہے۔ اسے دور کی چیزوں کو کھینچ لانے یا نکال لانے کے کام میں لاتے ہیں۔ اسی اعتبار سے ’’آنکڑا‘‘ کے ایک اور معنی بنے، ’’قبضہ، گرفت‘‘۔ مثلاً: ’’آنکڑا لگ گیا تو بس کام بن ہی گیا‘‘۔ ان دنوں بعض اخباروں میں یہ ’’اعداد و شمار، گنتی‘‘ کے معنی میں لکھا جانے لگا ہے۔ یہ ہندی کی مہربانی ہے، اردو میں ’’آنکڑا‘‘ کے یہ معنی ہر گز نہیں۔ ان معنی میں اس لفظ کو اردومیں نہ برتنا چاہئے۔
